Tonganoxie residents can enjoy four parks within its city limits and are only three miles away from Leavenworth County State Lake.
City Park City park is one city block in size. It was the first park ever defined by the city of Tonganoxie. It is located at 2nd and Main St. and includes the City Water Park, and hiking/bike trail that connects the VFW trail and the Chieftain Trail. It has a small shelter and picnic tables.
Reusch VFW Memorial Park This beautiful park was built by the local VFW post. It covers about 15 acres and is located at 900 E. First St. It is a quiet wooded area with picnic facilities, flower gardens, an exercise trail and shelters. It has access to city water and also features a stage for ceremonies and other functions. The park features a memorial obelisk with the names of those, from our area, who died in defense of our country.
Chieftain Park Park users can walk the 1/2-mile trail on the outer boundary of the park. The trail is linked to the VFW exercise trail with both trails covering 1.2 miles. The trail has six stations of fitness equipment along it. The park has playground equipment complete with swings and a climber. Chieftain Park includes soccer fields, lighted tennis, basketball, sand volleyball, and horseshoe courts.
Magnatech Park This gazebo is located on the south end of park - just over the foot bridge. It is surrounded by beautiful flowers and shrubbery which are painstakenly taken care of by the Leavenworth Master Gardeners. Contact the Extension Office at (913) 250-2300 for more information about becoming a Master Gardener.
Centennial Park The pocket park located on the southeast corner of US 24-40 and Washington St. gives our town a nice look to newcomers entering town from the south. It features flower gardens and picnic facilities. This little park is also the burial site of a time capsule.
Leavenworth County State Lake Although the State Lake is not located inside our city limits, it is only three miles away and is closely identified with Tonganoxie. It offers a quiet setting for picnics, two large shelter houses, overnight camping and boat launching facilities. There are Kansas State Park regulations posted on the north road as you enter the park and also by the boat ramp. These explain fishing regulations, limits, size rules, etc. They also explain camping regulations. details
