The Tonganoxie Fire Department (TFD) has been protecting our city since 1913. Currently the department depends on the services of 24 volunteers and four full-time fire fighters to man their five vehicles. Equipment includes two Class A pumpers, a Quint ladder truck, a new Quick Attack Unit, a newer Command/Medical Response Unit and state of the art air pack systems.

The Tonganoxie Fire Department has been granted an ISO Class VI rating and has mutual aid agreements with nine nearby city and township departments to share manpower and/or equipment.
