The City of Tonganoxie serves the community with basic services of police, fire, public works, and water utility.  The total municipal budget is $7.1 million and includes basic services, capital improvements, and debt service.

Tonganoxie's official population was last recorded as 4,996 July 1, 2011, and the comunity continues to grow.

Tonganoxie is administered by an elected Mayor, five City Council members and a full-time City Administrator, who is appointed by the City Council.
