The Tonganoxie Police Department has practiced Community Policing Philosophy since its early beginning in the 1870s.  Today, under the leadership of Chief Jeffery Brandau, the department continues to practice Community Policing with even more vigor.  We are here to serve and protect the citizens and merchants of Tonganoxie.

Chief Brandau was hired as the Chief of the Tonganoxie Police Department In October of 2010. He has 28 years of law enforcement experience, including 21 years with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and 6 years with the Salina Police Department as a Shift Supervisor.  Chief Brandau served one year as a law enforcement advisor to the United States Marine Corp in Helmond Province Afghanistan. In the capacity as an advisor Chief Brandau provided advice on instituting rule of law in southern Afghanistan and in assisting the Marines with detention and search operations. The police department has 28 commissioned police officers, consisting of 10 full time officers, 12 part time officers, and 6 reserve officers.  Six of our part time officers are former full time police officers and three of our reserve officers are former full time police officers.  All of the department’s personnel are well trained and dedicated.  Tonganoxie police officers have at their disposal 11 late model police cars with the latest equipment, to include in car video cameras.

Deputy Chief Billy Adcox has served the police department since August of 1999.  He served as a Captain on the Tonganoxie Fire Department prior to joining the police department.   Deputy Chief Adcox is well trained and dedicated.  In addition to his duties as second in command he serves as the department’s lead criminal investigator.

Tonganoxie is blessed to have a well below average crime rate when compared to Kansas as a whole and compared to national rates. It is the low crime rate, good schools, that make Tonganoxie such a wonderful place to live and work!
