2020 Police Patrol Officer

The City of Tonganoxie is recruiting for a Full-time Police Officer position, anticipated to start employment in early 2020.  See the job description for more detailed information.  Entry-level applicants are eligible to begin as a Police Trainee and must complete the police academy and field officer training within six months to be eligible for promotion to the Police Officer position.

Preference will be given to applicants that already have successfully completed the police academy and field officer training. as well as officers who have experience or training as a School Resource Officer. Other desired experience includes documentation as a Certified Law Enforcement Officer, honorably discharged military duty, or a bachelor's degree.The Police Officer salary range starts at $17.99 per hour, and the Police Trainee salary range starts at $13.34 per hour.

For positions requiring college education as part of the minimum requirement and/or an equivalency, the minimum education requirement is high school graduation. The requirement of "high school graduation" also includes the state-issued GED certificate.

Unless otherwise stated, the requirement of "an accredited" degree includes only those degrees obtained from colleges or universities listed with the U. S. Department of Education and recognized by the U. S. Secretary of Education.

Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, unless otherwise specified.

All positions require successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background and references check.  Candidates for positions that operate City vehicles will also have to pass a drivers license background check.
