Use of Fireworks Only Permitted June 30 through July 4

Posted by jshockley at Jun 30, 2015 02:45 PM |

It's officially that time of year for picnics, barbecues, parades and fireworks , so we'd like to take this opportunity to remind our residents that the use of fireworks is only permitted in City limits between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on June 30 through July 4.

If you plan to use fireworks, please be sure to follow these important safety tips:

  • Always read and follow label instructions
  • Always purchase high quality fireworks from a reliable, legitimate source
  • Alcohol and fireworks don't mix. Have a "designated shooter."
  • Have a source of water handy in case of fire
  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks
  • Older children should use fireworks only under close supervision
  • Light fireworks outdoors in a clear area away from onlookers, houses, and flammable materials
  • Light one device at a time; maintain a safe distance after lighting
  • Do not allow any running or horseplay while fireworks are being used
  • Never ignite devices in a container
  • Do not try to relight or handle malfunctioning fireworks; soak them with water and discard them safely
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off in case of fire

The City of Tonganoxie wishes you a safe and happy Independence Day!
