On December 3rd, several interested citizens met to form a task force designed to make recommendations to Council on the future of the former Gallagher Property at 301 S. Main Street. The citizen task force will provide recommendations to City leaders to determine how to plan for a future park.

The next strategic planning task force meeting is scheduled for March 19th at 6 p.m .at the Myer's Hotel. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend. The Task Force is chaired by resident and business owner Kay Soetaert.

The task force is charged with providing recommendations and strategies on

1. Features of the new park along with alternatives

2. Funding and grant opportunities

The property commonly referred to as the "Gallagher Property" was donated to the City by the sons of  Harry, Sr. and Margaret Gallagher. Since 1938, Mr. and Mrs. Gallagher owned the white house located at 301. S. Main Street. After Mrs. Gallagher's death in late 2010, the Gallagher sons Harry, Jr., Larry and Robert donated the property to the City for use as a municipal park. The house was demolished and the property is awaiting public input on how to move forward with a proposed park.
